Settings → Tax controls whether sales carry tax, at what rate, and how receipts show it.
The settings
- Enable tax — the master switch. Off = no tax calculated on sales.
- Default VAT rate (%) — your tax rate, applied to taxable sales.
- Prices include tax — whether your shelf prices already have tax baked in (tax-inclusive pricing) or tax adds on top at the till.
- POS default tax rate — the rate the till applies by default, if it differs from the standard.
Inclusive vs exclusive — the decision
| Tax-inclusive | Tax-exclusive | |
|---|---|---|
| Shelf price | The final price | Before tax |
| At the till | Tax carved out of the price | Tax added on top |
| Typical for | Retail, VAT regions | B2B, US-style sales tax |
Pick one and price accordingly — switching modes after products are priced reprices everything.
What it affects
- Receipts — show the tax line (and your VAT number, if set in receipt settings)
- Reports — tax collected breaks out in sales and the financial reports
- Purchase lines — per-line tax on GRNs affects landed cost
Warning: Tax settings are legal, not cosmetic — set the rate your registration requires. Wrong rates mean wrong remittances.
