How to accept credit card payments on your online store in Pakistan

COD and wallets cover most of how Pakistan buys — but the orders you are missing are the ones asking for a card. Corporate buyers, overseas customers and higher-value purchases all expect card checkout, and 'send us a bank transfer' quietly kills those sales. Here is how card acceptance actually works, and how to add it without a gateway saga. Our card payments page covers the feature side.

Why cards matter even in a COD market

Cash on delivery is how first-time buyers trust a new store — but it is not how everyone wants to pay. A company buying twenty uniforms will not WhatsApp you a bank slip. An overseas Pakistani ordering Eid clothes for family back home has a card, not a JazzCash wallet. And a customer buying a Rs 40,000 phone often prefers the protection of paying by card.

Card payments are also operationally cleaner than anything else you offer: they are prepaid (no fake orders, no courier collection risk, no RTO on refused parcels) and they confirm instantly instead of sitting in 'payment pending'.

The three routes to card acceptance

Route 1: local payment gateways

Pakistani gateways exist and several are legitimate businesses — but the path typically runs: business documentation, approval wait, integration work, then per-transaction fees on top. For a store that is just getting started, weeks of paperwork to enable one payment method is a hard sell.

Route 2: DIY Stripe integration

Developers can integrate Stripe directly — it is well documented and the API is excellent. The real cost is not the API, it is everything around it: building the checkout UI, handling 3-D Secure flows, storing order-payment references and maintaining it as Stripe's API evolves. Fine if you have a developer; friction if you do not.

Route 3: built-in card checkout

The third route is a platform where card acceptance is already part of checkout. In SYEZPOS, Visa and Mastercard run through Stripe on all storefront plans: the customer enters card details, Stripe confirms, the order marks itself paid — and it lands in the same order queue and cashbook as COD and wallet orders.

Cards + local rails is the actual answer

The mistake is treating cards as a replacement for COD. They serve different customers: COD converts the skeptical first-timer, wallets convert the prepaid local buyer, RAAST and bank transfer handle B2B, and cards catch everyone the local rails cannot reach — corporate, international, high-value.

  • Offer the full mix at checkout and let each buyer pick their rail
  • Prepaid methods (cards, wallets, RAAST) cut RTO — nudge toward them
  • Keep every method reconciled in one ledger — the mix only works if the books do

The payments overview shows how all of these sit in one checkout, and e-commerce POS for Pakistan covers the local side in depth.

Whatever route you take, never let card money live in a separate system from everything else. The checkout gets you paid; the shared ledger keeps you sane at day close.

Frequently asked questions

Can a Pakistani online store accept credit cards?

Yes — through a payment gateway integration, or a platform like SYEZPOS where Visa and Mastercard via Stripe are built into checkout on all storefront plans.

Do I need card payments if I offer COD?

For most stores, yes. Cards capture buyers COD cannot: corporate purchasers, international customers and higher-value orders. They are also prepaid — no collection risk.

What fees apply to online card payments?

The gateway's per-transaction percentage — Stripe's standard fees apply for card processing. COD and RAAST carry no gateway percentage, so the full mix keeps blended costs low.

Can international customers pay by card on my store?

Yes — card checkout works for international buyers the same way it does locally. For stores selling to overseas Pakistanis or export buyers, it is the difference between a completed order and a 'how do I pay?' email thread.
